Near the Platte River
Seeing the deer in the highway ditch,
the gash in its flesh
exposing the spinal column,
blood flickering in the sun,
I want to forget,
the collision of my mistakes,
my old, wild huntings.
I stop by the river and walk
where cottonwoods ripple in sunlight.
Disturbing no leaf, I congratulate myself,
how I drive straight,
leave no tracks on asphalt.
The only marks I make intentionally
are footprints in the sandbar
filling up with river.
靠近普拉提河
马路庞伫立的雄鹿，
肉眼可见的伤口，
裸露在外的脊柱，
阳光下鲜血淋漓。
我想忘记
我为我错误的行为懊悔
为我古老，野蛮的狩猎懊悔
我在河边停下脚步
水里的杨树在阳光下泛起涟漪
我庆幸自己不打扰一片落叶
可我如何在沥青马路笔直驾驶
不留下一丝痕迹
我唯一留下的标记
是河边沙子里的脚印
填满整个河流。
