Anacreon had a red rose，so they say；
But whats a red nose if yere happy and gay？
Gad split me！ Id rather be red whilst Im here，
Than white as a lily—and dead half a year！
So Betty，my miss，
Come give me a kiss；
In hell theres no innkeepers daughter like this！
Young Harry，proppd up just as straight as hes able，
Will soon lose his wig and slip under the table；
But fill up your goblets and pass ‘em around—
Better under the table than under the ground！
So revel and chaff
As ye thirstily quaff：
Under six feet of dirt ‘tis less easy to laugh！
The fiend strike me blue！ Im scarce able to walk，

Here，landlord，bid Betty to summon a chair；

烂醉面红犹痛饮，堕落遭天谴！

*阿那克里翁（Anacreon），古希腊诗人，因他的祝酒诗而闻名。洛夫克拉夫特喜爱的一首英国祝酒诗歌名为To Anacreon in Heaven，美国国歌The Star-Spangled Banner正是以此歌做为配曲的。
简介：
霍华德·菲利普·洛夫克拉夫特（Howard Phillips Lovecraft，1890年-1937年）是美国著名的恐怖奇幻小说作家，因小说里独特的世界观以及虚构的神话体系而闻名。早期的作品多有超自然主义的色彩。
诗歌选于洛夫克拉夫特的短篇小说The Tomb，写于1917年，属于他早期的作品。该篇小说的版本以Penguin Group于2001年出版，2002年再版的洛夫克拉夫特小说集The Thing on the Doorstep and Other Weird Stories中收录的为主。
主人公Jervas Dudley的精神状态异于常人，他所能感知到的，或是能看到的，都与一般人不同。他长期沉浸在古老又鲜为人知的书籍中，缺少交流，性格内向。Dudley在接触到家附近的一座古墓室以后，受到已逝者灵魂的影响。他有时候突然像变了个人，在一次与家人用餐时，豪爽地念出了Gaudeamus这首祝酒歌，这很显然是与他内向的性格相反的。而且在故事里这首诗歌根本未在任何书籍中有过记载。
小说里该诗歌并未标上标题。根据书本中的注释，洛夫克拉夫特的手稿中出现过这首诗，并且带有标题“Gaudeamus”，故这里给诗歌添上这一标题。
